Hammel Joins Larson Design Group as Vice President of Business Development

BEAVER, April 10, 2018 – Stephen Hammel has been named Vice President of Business Development for Larson Design Group, a nationally emerging architecture, engineering and survey firm with 10 offices in four states.  Hammel will lead LDG’s business development efforts, collaborating with each of its six business divisions in developing contracts with public- and private-sector clients by spearheading the company’s capture planning efforts and sales strategies.

In his 35-year career, Hammel has contributed to the development of several billions of dollars’ worth of design and construction across a spectrum of programs, ranging from the Department of Homeland Security and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to healthcare systems, universities and airports.  He has built strategic business relationships with clients such as Bechtel Marine Propulsion Corporation, Valspar, and FedEx Ground, in addition to dozens of developers, private corporations, local municipalities, and other Federal clients.

Hammel previously held senior business development positions with two large architectural and engineering firms, a leading provider of program and construction management services and two design-build contractors.  As well, while managing a Pittsburgh advertising agency office relocation, he obtained a firsthand client’s perspective about how to plan and lay out a project, work with designers and contractors and negotiate leases.

Keith Kuzio, PE, LDG’s President and Chief Executive Officer, said that Hammel knows how a project comes to life and brings an additional dimension to the company’s growth strategy.  “We have many seller/doers who do a great job of taking care of our existing clients,” he said.  “Steve will provide strategic client development leadership as we expand into new markets and geographies.”

Added David Martin, PE, LDG’s Chief Operating Officer, “Steve’s experience will serve several key, strategic functions.  One will be to collaborate with our divisions’ leadership members and directors to grow their businesses through cross-selling and the leveraging of existing relationships.  Another will be to provide direction to our client development and capture planning in our key strategic growth markets.”

Hammel was a valedictorian for the Community College of Allegheny County class of 1981 and is a 1983 graduate of Point Park University with a degree in journalism and communications.  He resides in Cranberry Township, Pennsylvania.
